Aventura Travel Booking App

Our Objective

The main purpose was to design a mobile app tailored to those thinking of travelling to South America and giving them an easy, informative, and pleasant experience when booking trips, searching for events, festivals, and cultural experiences, and at the same time educating users on the realities of the culture, beyond potential stereotypes, as well as ensuring users are properly informed regarding safety issues around potential racism, areas to avoid, and things to watch out for on their trip.

Our Plan

Step 1: Choose which tools we will use to communicate and collaborate

Step 2: Clearly define our high-level process and steps to take

Step 3: Decide everyone’s roles, areas of focus, and communication structure

Step 4: Assigning specific people to certain steps and deliverables

Step 5: Updating the team every week on issues found and progress made

Our Process

Stage 1: Define our customer personas to tailor our app to their needs

Stage 2: Research our customers and competitors for relevant insights

Stage 3: Create user flow diagrams and wireframes to establish the structure and layout

Stage 4: Set up our design package and system for consistent branding, colours, icons, etc. throughout the platform

Stage 5: Assemble & functionalize our prototype and get it ready to showcase

Our Execution

When we onboarded everyone onto our project management platform, due to its complexity and the team’s unfamiliarity using it, we found it much more effective to use the Miro platform.

We then set up weekly SCRUM meetings to review what progress had been made for individual objectives, what next steps each individual will take, and who, if any, will be collaborating with each other to complete each task.

Each meeting we had plenty of ideas to improve the design and functionality of the app, and because that became a distraction, we decided to focus on the core aspects to ensure the project gets finished in time

By the end, we had put together a complete package, from user flow diagrams to full-blown, high-fidelity prototypes of not only a mobile app, but because we had finished ahead of schedule we also put together a website prototype and we ended up creating a complete digital platform design!

Our Presentation

We did this project with members of IterateUX as part of their Design Challenge event where we presented our finished designs to the community for all to see, benefit from, and be inspired.

Our Accomplishment

By the end of the project, we

  • determined our customer personas so we could tailor our ideas to fulfill their needs,
  • got plenty of research done for our market, customers, and competitors and gained relevant insights,
  • designed our user flow diagrams and wireframs which stabilized the structure of the app and website,
  • created a consistent design package so that all our branding and themes were consistent across the platform, and
  • finalized our prototype(s) and made them ready for presentation

On top of that, we all got to know one another, because we had never worked together before, and so we had established great positive relationships with one another and any future projects we do together, or with others because of how much we helped and taught each other, will be even better, moving forward.

Our Team

Thanks to the following members of our design team who helped deliver the final product:

Special Thanks

Leticia Serrano

Leticia Serrano is the Founder of IterateUX and the organizer of the Design Challenge where we, along with several other groups, presented our projects, and it's thanks to Leticia we had this opportunity not only to showcase our skills and ability to work together as a team, solve problems, and come out with a finished product, but also to descibe our process and roadblocks we've overcome to help others succeed as well.
